Help Shane Hmiel & Accessible Racing "Race to Rockingham"

Shane Hmiel is no stranger to auto racing, a horrific accident paralyzed Shane during USAC qualifying at Terre Haute, Ind., on Oct. 9. Shane was initially given a 10 percent chance to live, Doctors told the Hmiel family he would never walk again or breathe on his own. They advised the family to build ramps at their home and secure a permanent place for Shane in a nursing home.
Shanes Dad, Steve said, "People pray for miracles, Shane just might be one. He died four times. He wasn't supposed to ever move his fingers again. He wasn't supposed to ever move his arms again. He wasn't ever supposed to move his toes or his feet again. He has done all of those things."

Jeremy is a new oval track fan and will be visiting from Brooks Army Medical Center, one of the World's Greatest Military teaching hospitals located at Fort Sam Houston, TX., To learn what made NASCAR America's Fastest Growing Spectator Sport, and for many fans and drivers, a NEW way of life..

Dr Heckman, Hanaford and Sonalysts have been collaborating on a White Paper and strategic plan to develop software for drivers education, and modifications to off- the-shelf VXP Driving Simulator.

Rockingham Speedway and Steve Pruett, 25 TV stations, are aligning schedules to film paralyzed NASCAR driver Shane Hmiel returning to the seat of a racecar for the first time.

Accessible Racing strives to bring together a US disabled Vets team, in order for this we need support to accomplish together what other wise would be impossible to achieve individually.

  • Rob Gatti's 702 Productions, Las Vegas Nevada.
  • CEO of numerous media outlets suggesting injured NASCAR driver Shane Hmiel as a driving coach for the disabled Vets.

World Driving Challenge on-line fund raising competition powered by iRacing has been in the planing stages for more then 3 years now. The purpose is to generate money to develop VXP driving simulators for persons who have lost function in lower extremities and can not operate with peddles. Further R&D will include design of a module with a joy stick for amputees and horizontal wheel for quads.

Events like KartForce fit perfectly into our BIG PICTURE plan sharing common goals, recognize the same competitive warrior pre-injury needs an outlet post injury to feel whole again.
Goals like owning the house, getting a job, and getting married can be achieved quicker then one may think. BUT, the injured person needs that one more FUN thing to look forward to and DREAM. This, and mentoring to other newly injured in VA Hospitals..or Childrens Hospitals especially can fill that void of how they can again provide a service to God & Country

  1. World Driving Challenge powered by iRacing.com is a global on-line event that features NASCAR oval track or European style road course competition, participants can reach fund raising incentives ranging from team apparel to driving a NASCAR, INDY car, Snowmobile, ATV, Jet Ski or more for ambulatory as well as physically challenged Vets and Civilians.
  2. KartForce World Karting Challenge is just what the Dr ordered to share Freedom, Hope and Inspiration with newly injured disabled vets in rehabilitation.

There's more than meets the eye!

Sonalysts Corp developed NAVY software training for every submariner in past 30 years. New York University Medical Center's Dr. Jeffrey Heckman, and Accessible Racing co-founder Brian Hanaford joined together to Research & Develop a Driver Rehabilitation Training System. DRTS strive to develop comprehensive suite of software driver training scenarios focused on preparing disabled war fighters and civilians to successfully pass all driver's license certification requirements.
  • Improve shared activities and participation of family caregiver, friends in rehabilitation.
  • Improve hand / eye coordination and muscle memory in the virtual world that seamlessly transitions to real world applications.
  • Improve functional performance in daily life skills.
Dr Jeffrey Heckman said, "We have the experience of submitting a White Paper but our biggest area of experience was the Waterford Speedbowl event.  That event was awesome and showed the impact of challenging individuals with disabilities and the benefit on their well being.  Once we write it up we will have some scientific evidence to show other organizations, but for now the events can just be described". In addition, Dr Heckman  M plans to submit to two international conferences in 2013. March in Germany and June in China.
