Shane Hmiel Set to Get Back Behind the Wheel of a Racecar at Rockingham Speedway

Shane Hmiel Set to Get Back Behind the Wheel of a Racecar at Rockingham Speedway

Accessible Racing has teamed up with Hmiel to share freedom, hope, & inspiration & to build the morale & welfare of the disabled that will help them reintegrate into society post injury

(Charlotte, N.C. Dec. 18, 2012) Ever since Shane Hmiel’s accident that left him paralyzed while attempting to qualify for a USAC race at Terra Haute, Indiana on Oct. 9, 2010 his Road to Recovery has been nothing short of miracles and has served has an inspiration to many. Doctors initially told Hmiel and his family he had a 10 percent chance to live and that he would never walk or breathe on his own again. He wasn’t supposed to ever move his fingers again. He wasn’t supposed to ever move his arms again. He wasn’t supposed to ever move his toes or his feet again but he has defied the odds and overcome all those things.

For Hmiel, none of this would have been made possible without all the support, prayers, and donations from his loving family, friends, and fans across the country. And now, with continued support, Hmiel has the opportunity to get back behind the wheel of a racecar with Accessible Racing at Rockingham Speedway on Saturday, January 26, 2013. For more information on how you can be involved to help make this special event happen, please visit: http://tinyurl.com/cxq7wfy. Donations are being accepted now through January 26.

Accessible Racing is the brainchild of Co-Founder and President Brian Hanaford and is a program built on the mindset of breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for disabled Vets and civilians. Hanaford grew up in an auto racing family but choose a different path in life. Running became his passion but a car accident resulted in a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) that changed the course of his life. After years of recovery and emotional distress, he decided to modify a racecar to assist the physically challenged. Hanaford explains, "Seeing the look on other disabled peoples’ faces when they took a ride in my racecar was a life changing experience for me. Improving somebody’s quality of life in this way is more fulfilling then any self help book or organization I learned of in 30 years. I want to continue sharing with others what has been a gift from God to me.”

The Accessible Racing driving experience provides an exciting and therapeutic experience that helps disabled individuals rediscover their capabilities. It opens up the possibilities in their lives after an accident, illness or injury. It allows individuals to experience the excitement of competition and the thrill of victory, as well as the agony of defeat. These experiences help prepare individuals after rehabilitation to face the adversity of a disability in their lives and to learn to bounce back in the face of challenge and change. To find out more about Accessible Racing please visit www.accessibleracing.com.

Contributions and continued support will help Hmiel take another huge step on his Road to Recovery and continue the positive impact Accessible Racing is providing for our disabled Vets and civilians.

Accessible Racing / Fast Track / Rockingham Speedway, Good Year and Penske

Accessible Racing / Fast Track / Rockingham Speedway, Steve Pruett, 702 Productions, Good Year and Penske strive to get Shane Hmiel back in the racecar for the first time, post injury.

Coach Hmiel wont just be coaching others, he will also provide a road map for physically challenged to regain mobility and reintegrate into society. Filming and airing on 3WL will feature Shane on track and off track events, from rehabilitation, returning to the track, driving a racecar and returning to hospitals to share Freedom, Hope and Inspiration with newly injured Vets and Civilians still in the hospital.

World Driving Challenge is a spin-off fund raising event, in line with 3 day Bike Ride For AIDS and 3 day Walk for Breast Cancer,  necessary to develop research and development funds to support a network of disabled persons, rehabilitation hospitals, regional chapters, sustainability plan, increased market reach, driving software, therapeutic and recreational benefits.

World Driving Challenge will generate funds for future events, in addition to donate  a % of profits to Shane's NEW van, in order for Coach Hmiel to schedule speaking engagements and mentoring at hospitals or disabled sports groups.

World Driving Challenge incentive rewards range from iRacing.com team apparel to driving a KART, NASCAR or INDY car at participating speedways in USA, Canada, and UK

Power Sports USA strategic plan is nearly finished and will feature many benefits anchored by Motor Powered Sports Power and low insurance coverage to help individual chapter accomplish together under one umbrella that would be a lot more expensive to achieve individually. Roy Whitacker,  New England Disabled Sports and Brian Hanaford, co-founder - President-Sr Partner of Accessible Racing are designing Power Sports USA to dove tail nicely with Scientific report Dr Jeffrey Heckman will provide by first of the year.

Dr Heckman, Hanaford and Sonalysts have been collaborating on a White Paper and strategic plan to develop software for drivers education, and modifications to off- the-shelf VXP Driving Simulator.

Rockingham Speedway and Steve Pruett, 25 TV stations, are aligning schedules to film paralyzed NASCAR driver Shane Hmiel returning to the seat of a racecar for the first time.

Shane and other participants will then mentor hospitalized vets and newly injured civilians with VXP driving simulator.

Accessible Racing disabled Vets Challenge World's Best

Accessible Racing confident with choice to challenge UK and the rest of the World's top Disabled Vets in KartForce competition!

2012 National Award WINNING Motorsports Video of the Year!
"This Demonstrates racings contributions beyond the track and crystallizes everything that makes racing, and sports in general, great", said Justin Burnett, who has been with SPEED TV for nearly 2 years. " Far away from the bright spot light of a NASCAR race weekend, Accessible Racing is using their passion for racing as a vehicle for inspiration and change."

UK Karting program creates a friendly motor sports rivalry between NASCAR oval track and European style road course competition powered by iRacing.com. and climaxing in a Super Bowl/World Cup event for physically challenged mixed in with ambulatory drivers, Novice to Super Stars and National to Global competition!
Jul/Aug 2013 KartForce host 1 week event, visit 5 different format races at
5 different top UK tracks, awarding Individual points table and a teams points table.
Team that wins hosts next event. Teams that have registered from Israel, Denmark, Canada, Australia, Germany, France and Italy. http://tinyurl.com/9l6bcpp
Accessible Racing strives to bring together a US disabled Vets team, in order for this we need support to accomplish together what other wise would be impossible to achieve individually.

Media interest is essential to secure donations, sponsorship and support. Contact and in most cases conversations have been initiated with National and Global leaders such as;
  • Rob Gatti's 702 Productions, Las Vegas Nevada.
  • CEO of numerous media outlets suggesting injured NASCAR driver Shane Hmiel as a driving coach for the disabled Vets.
  • Film Makers Brent & Craig Renaud who have spent the last decade producing award winning news and documentary programs around the World. From places like Kosovo, Afghanistan, Bolivia, China, Pakistan, Iraq, Cambodia, Juarez and Haiti, their productions have appeared on most of the major news and television outlets in the United States and many from abroad. The Renaud Brothers are regular contributors to the New York Times, and the founders and artistic directors of the Little Rock Film Festival. http://tinyurl.com/c7pfd9s

World Driving Challenge on-line fund raising competition powered by iRacing has been in the planing stages for more then 3 years now. The purpose is to generate money to develop VXP driving simulators for persons who have lost function in lower extremities and can not operate with peddles. Further R&D will include design of a module with a joy stick for amputees and horizontal wheel for quads.

Events like KartForce fit perfectly into our BIG PICTURE plan sharing common goals, recognize the same competitive warrior pre-injury needs an outlet post injury to feel whole again.
Goals like owning the house, getting a job, and getting married can be achieved quicker then one may think. BUT, the injured person needs that one more FUN thing to look forward to and DREAM. This, and mentoring to other newly injured in VA Hospitals..or Childrens Hospitals especially can fill that void of how they can again provide a service to God & Country

  1. World Driving Challenge powered by iRacing.com is a global on-line event that features NASCAR oval track or European style road course competition, participants can reach fund raising incentives ranging from team apparel to driving a NASCAR, INDY car, Snowmobile, ATV, Jet Ski or more for ambulatory as well as physically challenged Vets and Civilians.
  2. KartForce World Karting Challenge is just what the Dr ordered to share Freedom, Hope and Inspiration with newly injured disabled vets in rehabilitation.

There's more than meets the eye!

Sonalysts Corp developed NAVY software training for every submariner in past 30 years. New York University Medical Center's Dr. Jeffrey Heckman, and Accessible Racing co-founder Brian Hanaford joined together to Research & Develop a Driver Rehabilitation Training System. DRTS strive to develop comprehensive suite of software driver training scenarios focused on preparing disabled war fighters and civilians to successfully pass all driver's license certification requirements.
  • Improve shared activities and participation of family caregiver, friends in rehabilitation.
  • Improve hand / eye coordination and muscle memory in the virtual world that seamlessly transitions to real world applications.
  • Improve functional performance in daily life skills.
Dr Jeffrey Heckman said, "We have the experience of submitting a White Paper but our biggest area of experience was the Waterford Speedbowl event.  That event was awesome and showed the impact of challenging individuals with disabilities and the benefit on their well being.  Once we write it up we will have some scientific evidence to show other organizations, but for now the events can just be described". In addition, Dr Heckman  M plans to submit to two international conferences in 2013. March in Germany and June in China.
